Our Story
Studio Apart is a brand of handmade artisanal ceramic works encompassing a wide range of articles which all have one common unifying factor – the Human Touch. All our products start on a potter’s wheel and are finished over a period of several weeks thereby achieving meticulous detail and quality.
We use the best of stoneware clay for making handmade stoneware pottery, with all our ceramic pieces fired at a higher temperature (above 1200 degC), creating a denser and harder body, that is shaped by a trained hand ensuring each unique piece is unique and one-of-a kind.
All our ceramic pieces are microwave and dishwasher friendly, durable pieces of pottery, made to be enjoyed for a lifetime!
Studio Apart is a brand for people who celebrate the charm, character and the sheer beauty embodied by handmade products treating it like a piece of art – special in its own way!! Hence you can be assured of what the tagline says – STUDIO APART –A class apart!!
APOORVA KAPPAGANTULA
Artist & Founder | STUDIO APART
Apoorva’s fascination towards pottery was born when she pursued her Diploma in fine arts from Kalakshetra foundation (Chennai) from 2010-2014 where she learnt the fundamentals of pottery, printmaking, drawing, painting, Indian art and sculpture. Later in 2014-2016 she also did her specialisation from Chitrakala Parishath (Bangalore). In 2016 shes started out as a freelance artist taking up various diverse commissioned art assignments such as designing ceramic murals, working on the interiors of a cafe, creating wall paintings for a fitness centre, illustrating a children’s book series and many more, which helped to expand her horizons as an artist. Adding to all this, her stint in GBP (Golden Bridge Pottery) in Pondicherry, with the founders of the place Mr. Ray Meeker and Miss. Deborah Smith helped her gain knowledge in both hand-built and wheel-thrown works and firing techniques enhancing her skills as a ceramic artist.
All these experiences were instrumental in her decision to take the plunge and set up her own studio — STUDIO APART!
ARTIST MUSINGS
My college, the bamboo windows, the beach and the lonely standing firangipani tree with scattered white flowers.
This is where it all started…
As an artist, I have always worked backwards, thinking about the colours/ textures I want to use first, before thinking about the form. As a potter, I am drawn to making pots which remind me of lazy weekends at the hostel next to the ocean. The warm clay taking up different personalities as if having a life of its own. The textures and colours of my favourite turquoise blue and the sky in reds and oranges, have all crept into my work.
I make it a point to regularly visit places from where I get all my inspiration from, to recharge, refuel and gather new ideas…
It gives me great joy to offer you all a sneak peek into my world of art. STUDIO APART.
At STUDIO APART each individual pot is lovingly crafted to have its own unique characteristics and personality… No two pieces are exactly alike – I want each of my pieces to feel like they have a soul… a backstory…
COME!! Feel the clay…
